Step behind the scenes and discover the exciting world of animal care with Ringo’s Rangers at Shepreth Wildlife Park.

This immersive experience gives aspiring zookeepers the opportunity to step into a zookeeper’s boots for the day. Participants will gain a fascinating insight into the role of modern zoos, learning how dedicated animal care teams look after a wide variety of species and contribute to wildlife conservation.

Through engaging hands-on activities, Rangers will explore animal husbandry, discover how we care for our amazing animals, and investigate real zoo artefacts. Along the way, they’ll develop practical skills, learn about animal welfare and behaviour, and experience the challenges and rewards of working in a zoo environment.

Whether they’re uncovering the secrets of animal care, getting hands-on with fascinating artefacts, or learning from experienced zoo professionals, Ringo’s Rangers offers an unforgettable adventure for young people with a passion for wildlife.

What to expect:

An engaging and immersive experience that offers a unique insight into the world of modern zoos and the role of a zookeeper.

  • Discover Life as a Zookeeper
    Spend the session with a dedicated Discovery Team member and learn what is involved in a zookeeper’s day-to-day role, from animal care and welfare to enrichment and conservation.

  • Explore the Evolution of Zoos
    Take a journey through the history of zoos and discover how they have evolved over time. Through fun, hands-on activities, learn how modern zoos play an important role in animal welfare, education, conservation, and protecting endangered species.

  • Go Behind the Scenes
    Enjoy exclusive access to working zookeeper areas and gain a closer look at some of the facilities used by our animal care teams.

  • Wildlife Walk and Animal Discovery
    Take part in a guided walk around the park, observing some of our amazing animal residents. Learn about their unique behaviours and adaptations and discover how keepers identify individual animals.

  • Take on Zookeeper Challenges
    Put your creativity and problem-solving skills to the test with a range of exciting zookeeper challenges, including designing an animal enclosure and considering what animals need to thrive in their environment.

  • Create Animal Enrichment
    Help prepare enrichment for one of our animals and watch as they enjoy their special treat, while learning how enrichment supports animal wellbeing and encourages natural behaviours.

By the end of the session, Rangers will have gained a deeper understanding of modern zoos, animal welfare, conservation, and the rewarding work of zookeepers, all while enjoying a fun and interactive wildlife experience.

Key Information

  • The workshop is £55 per child.
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the session.
  • One adult per family is included free of charge.
  • This is a group workshop, not a private experience.
  • A maximum of 10 children can take part in each session, ensuring a fun and engaging experience for everyone.
  • A minimum of 5 children is required for the workshop to run. If this number is not reached, the workshop may be cancelled.
  • There is no direct animal contact during the workshop.
  • Lunch on the day is included for participants.
  • Children must be supervised by an adult during the lunch break.
  • All participants will receive a participation certificate to celebrate their achievement.
  • Every child will also receive a winter admission ticket to return and enjoy another visit to Shepreth Wildlife Park.

Booking and Payment

  • There is no requirement to pay on this web page.
  • Places can be reserved using the booking form. Please email office@sheprethwildlifepark.co.uk. for the link.
  • Payment must be received within 5 days of booking to secure your place.
  • Any booking that remains unpaid after 5 days may be cancelled and the space offered to another participant.
  • Workshop fees are payable in full and are not eligible for any discounts, promotional offers, concessionary rates, or special offers unless explicitly stated.
  • Tesco Clubcard Reward Partner vouchers cannot be used as payment, either in full or in part, for workshop bookings.
  • Shepreth Wildlife Park Annual Passes do not provide a discount on workshop bookings and cannot be used as payment towards workshop fees.

Participant Requirements

  • Workshops are designed for the stated age range.
  • All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult throughout the session.
  • One adult per family is included free of charge. Additional adults may be admitted subject to standard admission charges.
  • Workshop activities take place both indoors and outdoors, and participants should be prepared for all weather conditions.
  • Children and accompanying adults must wear suitable clothing appropriate for the weather on the day, including waterproofs, sun protection, warm layers, or hats as required.
  • Sturdy, closed-toe footwear must be worn at all times. Open-toed shoes, sandals, flip-flops, or footwear deemed unsuitable for outdoor activities are not recommended.
  • Shepreth Wildlife Park accepts no responsibility for discomfort or inconvenience resulting from unsuitable clothing or footwear.
  • Workshop activities will generally continue in wet weather unless conditions are considered unsafe. Participants should therefore come prepared for outdoor activities regardless of the forecast.

Animal Contact

  • For the welfare of our animals and the safety of participants, there is no direct animal handling or contact during any workshop activities.
  • Animal viewing opportunities are included, but all interactions will be supervised and conducted from public areas or behind safety barriers.

Changes and Cancellations

  • Shepreth Wildlife Park reserves the right to amend workshop content, timings, or activities where necessary, including due to animal welfare requirements, operational needs, weather conditions, or health and safety considerations.
  • In the unlikely event that a workshop is cancelled by Shepreth Wildlife Park, participants will be offered an alternative date or a full refund.

Certificates and Admission Tickets

  • Each child attending the workshop will receive a Participation Certificate.
  • Each child will also receive a Winter Admission Ticket.
  • Winter Admission Tickets are non-transferable, have no cash value, and are subject to any applicable terms, conditions, and expiry dates stated on the ticket.

Health and Safety

  • Participants are expected to follow all instructions given by Discovery Team members and other staff.
  • Shepreth Wildlife Park reserves the right to remove any participant whose behaviour is disruptive, unsafe, or may negatively affect the experience of others.

Photography

  • Photographs may be taken by parents and guardians of their own children during the workshop unless otherwise advised by staff.
  • Any photography taken by Shepreth Wildlife Park for promotional purposes will be subject to the appropriate consent procedures.

General

  • By submitting a booking, participants agree to these Terms & Conditions.
